Daughton, Vice-Consul for the United States of America at Calcutta, who travelled by the "Mongolia that Thompson is an oculist by trade. Thompson told Mr. Daughton that he had never done any mountain climbing; and the party had no outfit with them for mountaineering purposes. The Government of India has been advised

to this effect.
